2021 Honda Rebel 1100: DCT reset loop (automatic models)

CHECK IT CLOSE

EVIDENCE: REPAIR-INDUSTRY CONSENSUS

What goes wrong

Early Rebel 1100s with the Dual Clutch Transmission can hit a reset loop that prevents the clutches from engaging, tied to early ECU mapping. Mechanically the bike is sound; this is a software fault.

Federal record for the 2021 Honda Rebel 1100, pulled from NHTSA when this page was built:
1 owner complaint , most-reported: ENGINE (1) · 1 recall listed.
Motorcycle complaint volume is a tiny fraction of what cars generate, so a low number here proves very little. NHTSA does not crash-test motorcycles at all.
Rough cost: Software/ECU work, dealer diagnosis. Broad estimates , motorcycle labor rates and parts vary widely.

What to do about it

Before you hand over cash: On the test ride, cycle the DCT through its modes and stop-start it a few times. Ask whether ECU updates have been applied. Manual-transmission Rebel 1100s don't have this at all.

On any used motorcycle, check the tire DOT date codes, ask for the valve service receipt, and look for drop damage on both sides before you talk about price.
